Casmine Copeland poured in 19 points and Jasmine Carter added 18 points to lead the Jackets. Carter had 11 rebounds and Sabrina Abbott had 10 rebounds. The Lady Jackets finished the week with a 3-9 record.
Clay-Chalkville 63 Oxford 32
It was all Clay-Chalkville in the first game of the week as the Cougars exploded for 19 straight points at the end of the first quarter to break the game open and roll to a 63-32 win at Clay. The game was tight at 11-7 with 2:35 to go in the opening quarter and the Cougars scored 15 straight to go up 26-7 at the quarter.
The Cougars pulled out to a 37-11 halftime lead. The Jackets were plagued by 15 first half turnovers. Christian Hudson led the Cougars with 24 points. Jasmine Carter had 10 points and 3 rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets. Casmine Copeland had 6 points, Meagan McCartney 2 points, Lexie Higgins 6 points, Sabrina Abbott 3 points, Katey Skinner 2 points and Deanna Clark 1 point. Skinner had 5 rebounds and Abbott 3 rebounds.
Oxford 51 Pell City 22
Casmine Copeland scored 20 points as the Yellow Jackets snapped an 8 game losing streak against some stiff completion and rolled all over Pell City 51-22 last week in Oxford. Coach Tonya Peoples shifted Lexie Higgins to point guard and moved Copeland to the shooting guard and it proved to be successful against the Panthers, a team that knocked them out of the Area tournament last season.
Oxford jumped on top 10-0 and was never headed as they rolled to a 29 point victory. The Jackets led 26-10 at the half and were up 42-16 after three quarters as Copeland drained a hail mary shot from the other side of half-court.
Carter had 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Clark had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Higgins had 2 points and 7 rebounds. Alexandra Shakespeare had a 3 point basket in her first shot of the season as all the Jackets got some playing time in the second half.
