You make the schedule even tougher, and Oxford High School basketball coach Joel Van Meter has to be looking forward to this season as he has rebuilt the Oxford Basketball program to a point where they can compete with any team.
The Jackets lost eight games by less than six points a year ago, and played nine people regularly in those games. Van Meter only loses Jackson Stephens and Deon Hobdy off of that group, and has some talented players coming up from the B team.
Those seven players averaged 46 of the team’s 60-points-a-game average. They will have size in 6’6 Ulric Jones and have speed in the guard play of Logan Craft, Deion Wright and Justin Lawler. Jamal Lee is a 6’3 forward that attacks the basket. Keith Wilson can shoot the threes and Demetrius Maxwell is a defensive stalwart.
The Jackets will be at home most of the time at the start of the season, and on the road towards the end. There is no doubt that Yellow Jacket basketball will be entertaining this year.
