Jackets march into Georgia; get two wins
Oxford’s boys’ basketball team took third place in the Carrollton Christmas Tournament last week as it won two of three games to run its record to 12-4 on the season. The Jackets have only 4 losses on the season and those losses came against teams that have a combined record of 47-3 and three of the losses were by two points or less.

Oxford’s Yellow Jacket boys’ basketball team had an impressive 3-1 week. They had two big wins against two Mississippi schools and lost a heartbreaker at powerhouse Clay-Chalkville. In between was a blowout win at home against Pell City. The Jackets ended the week with a 10-3 record.

The Lady Jackets had a good week as they picked up two victories in three games. They rolled to a big home win over Pell City, before splitting two games in Oxford, Miss. They lost the opener in Mississippi to Oxford, Miss., and defeated the Commodores of Lafayette, Miss., 50-39 in the second game.

Trinity Christian finally had a home game last Friday night, but ran into foul trouble and fell by 12 to Clay County Christian Academy. They stand at 8-3 in the first half of the season and won two road games last week.

The Oxford Yellow Jacket basketball team officially kicked the door in and took over first place in the Area last Friday night at home before a packed crowd at The Sports Arena in Oxford. Their arch-rivals, the Gadsden City Titans, came to town having never lost an area game in their school history and confident they were going to beat the Jackets again.

The Oxford Lady Yellow Jackets continue to build their program to a 6A program and this year with a big group of juniors, Coach Tonya Peoples has upgraded the schedule to playing the best possible teams and has very few games against smaller schools. In the past that schedule was full of smaller schools, but hurt the development of the program.

Oxford High School basketball is something to behold this season. They have so much talent and each time you come to the Sports Arena, you literally do not know what kind of style of game the Jackets are going to play.
