The girls came in a close second as they scored 82 points. Central of Carrollton took first place with 95 points. There were 10 boys and girls teams entered in the event.
Three Jackets finished in the top 5 in the 100-meter dash. Rock Thomas led the way with a second place finish with a time of 11.27, Dominque Williams was fourth with a time of 11.31 and Trae Elston was fifth with a time of 11.33. Jerome Foreman placed third in the 200 meter (23.30) and eighth in the 400 meter (55.14).
Dustin Gaskins finished fourth in the 800 (2.11.50) and teammate Zach Lee was sixth with a time of 2.16.15.
The relay team of Elston, Monte Bass, Williams and Thomas took the 4x100 relay with a time of 43.57. Bass also took second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.27) and third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.24). Terry Mason was eighth in the 300 hurdles and Mason Love eighth in the 110 hurdles.
Jacob Schwyn (10:10) and Alec Young (10:35) were second and third in the 3200-meter run. Schwyn, Bass, Elston and Foreman finished fourth in the 4 X 400 meter relay with a time of 3:35.51.
In the field events, Damian Roberts took first in the discus throw with a heave of 121-05. Kenyan Richey came in sixth with a throw of 130-02. Richey added a fourth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 39-11.50.
Conner McCall was second in the pole vault as he cleared 11-06.00. Williams was second in the triple jump (41-02.50) and fourth in the long jump (20-05.00). Thomas placed third in the long jump with a jump of 20-06.00.
Depth and high finishes in most of the events carried the Jackets to the team title.
April Dunlap had a fifth in the 100 meters (13.20) and a fourth in the 200 meters (27.28) to lead the Jackets in the short dashes. Raneshia Patterson came in seventh and Jamiria Bradford placed eighth in the 200. Alexis Clark had a fourth in 400 meter at 1:06.41.
Maya Mitchell came in third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.09. Hannah Hernden posted a time of 2:45.41.
The girls picked up a lot of points in the 1600 and 3200 runs. Cori Green was first in the 3200 with a time of 12:36.00. Teammates Lexie Delain came in fifth and Alex Lambert eighth. Green and Hernden had a fourth and a sixth place finish in the 1600-meter run.
Newell placed fourth and eighth in the 300 meter and 100 meter hurdles. The talented Newell added a fourth place finish in the high jump.
In the 4 x 100 relay, Lacretia Taylor, Patterson, Justice Abbott and Clark placed seventh and Dunlap, Mitchell, Hernden and Clark finished sixth in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Brianna Calhoun and Jessica Stringer finished seventh and eighth in the girls’ shot put.
Central was able to take the team title by picking up points in the shot put, long jump and triple jump to take the title.
Coach Jim Presnell’s teams will be back in action April 6th in Mobile for the Mobile Challenge of Champions.
